Overview
Custom Populations let you segment your data however you want in Crossbeam.
For example:
Customers - EMEA
Open Opportunities - Enterprise
You're now able to give every Custom Population a standard type: Customers, Open Opportunities, Prospects, or Other.
By assigning standard types, Crossbeam can automatically recognize what each Population represents — so your data flows into all the right places across the platform. That means a clearer view in the Account Mapping Matrix, Reports, Deal Navigator, Performance Dashboard, and more.
Starting November 6, you’ll see all your populations grouped by standard type—making it easier to understand your ecosystem and overlaps.

Auto-assigned types for existing Populations
We have auto-assigned standard types to your existing Custom Populations using keyword matching (for example: Customers - NA → Customers).
You can review and adjust these assignments anytime.

Why this matters
Your data works harder for you.
All of your Populations — not just the standard ones — now count toward key features like reports, dashboards, and CRM sync.
No more blind spots.
If you’ve been using Custom Populations for customers, opportunities, or prospects, they’ll now be included everywhere that data matters.
Accurate, complete insights.
Overlap numbers and partner views reflect the full picture of your ecosystem.
Flexible, but consistent.
Split customers by region, segment, or business line — they’ll all roll up under the right type, ensuring consistency without losing detail.
Available Population Types
When creating a Custom Population, you’ll assign one of these standard types:
Customers
Open Opportunities
Prospects
Other – for Populations that don’t fit into the above categories (e.g., “Partners,” “Closed Lost”)
If your Population name contains words like “Customer,” “Prospect,” or “Opp,” Crossbeam will automatically suggest a type for you.
Who can edit Population Types
Admins (or users who can create/edit Populations) can assign or update a type.
All users can view the assigned type.

No. Record Exports aren’t affected.
Can I skip assigning a type?
No, but you can always select Other if none of the categories apply.
